How to Plan an OOH Campaign in Egypt: A Step-by-Step Guide (2026)

A good outdoor campaign in Egypt is mostly decided before anything is printed: which roads, which boards, for how long, and what the board says in three seconds. These are the seven steps we see work, with real prices from the Egyptian market.

1. Set one goal

Decide what the campaign is for, because it changes every later choice. Awareness (a new brand, a new product) needs reach: big formats on main roads, for at least two months. A local result (a branch opening, a compound launch, a clinic) needs coverage of one area: several smaller boards on the routes into it. A seasonal push (Ramadan, summer) needs the right weeks more than the right size.

2. Choose the area your customers move through

Think in routes, not addresses. Where do your customers drive to work, shop and go out? For most Cairo brands that means the Ring Road, the 90th Street in New Cairo, Salah Salem, the 26th of July corridor and the Nile bridges. For a local business it means the two or three streets everyone uses to reach you. Browse boards by area on our Cairo map or any other city in the directory.

3. Pick the format

  • Unipoles and mega walls for reach on highways and main roads.
  • Standard street billboards for covering a district at a lower price per board.
  • Digital screens when you want to change the message by time of day or run for a short period.
  • Light boxes and mall formats for reaching people close to where they buy.

See billboard sizes explained for the details, and what OOH advertising is for an overview of every format.

4. Set the budget with real prices

From 81 billboards with published prices in Cairo, Giza and Alexandria, the median was EGP 32,000 a month. Three example budgets, before printing and VAT:

  • Neighbourhood campaign: three small street boards for one month, about EGP 45,000.
  • City campaign: one 6×3 m board in Cairo for three months, about EGP 66,000.
  • Ring Road presence: three unipoles for one month, about EGP 147,000.

Add printing and installation for printed boards, and design if you don’t have a designer. The full breakdown is in the billboard price guide.

5. Time it

Book two to four weeks ahead in an ordinary month. Before Ramadan and for the North Coast summer, book one to two months ahead: demand rises and the best boards go first. Prefer two or three months on the same boards to one month on many: people need to see a board several times before they remember it.

6. Design for three seconds

  • One message, about seven words. A driver has seconds.
  • The brand big and obvious. If they remember only one thing, it should be who you are.
  • Strong contrast and a plain font, Arabic first for most of Egypt.
  • One way to act: a short web address, a QR code on boards people walk past or wait at, or a phone number only where traffic stops.
  • Check the night view if the board is lit.

7. Book, check and measure

  • Before booking: confirm the dates, the face size for the print file, whether printing and installation are included, and VAT. The board owner normally holds the licence under Law 208 of 2020; ask.
  • After installation: ask for dated photos of your ad on every board, and visit the important ones.
  • Measure: use a unique promo code or short link only on the billboards, watch branded searches and calls in the areas you covered, and compare with the months before.

Frequently asked questions

How far ahead should I book billboards in Egypt?

For ordinary months, two to four weeks is usually enough to compare boards, confirm availability and print. Before Ramadan and for the North Coast summer, book one to two months ahead: the best boards on the main roads go first.

How long should an OOH campaign run?

Most printed boards are rented by the month, and one month is the usual minimum. For a new brand or a launch, two to three months on the same route builds far more recognition than one month spread over many places.

How many words should a billboard have?

As few as possible. A common rule of thumb in outdoor advertising is about seven words, because a driver has only a few seconds to read it. One message, the brand, and one way to act.
